Kamakura: A Historic Coastal Gem

Located just a hour-or-so trip from COUSCOUS Glamping Manazuru, Kamakura is a charming seaside city rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Once the political center of Japan, Kamakura is now a must-visit destination for travelers looking to explore ancient temples, breathtaking coastal views, and delicious local food.

The Great Buddha of Kamakura (Kamakura Daibutsu)

One of Kamakura’s most iconic landmarks is the Great Buddha at Kotoku-in Temple. Standing over 13 meters (43 feet) tall, this bronze statue of Amida Buddha has been watching over Kamakura for nearly 800 years. Visitors can even step inside the hollow interior of the statue!

Staff's Recommendation

Kamakura is a perfect spot for a day trip! The famous shrines and temples are great, but I also recommend visiting smaller temples and enjoying a relaxing cup of matcha. Personally, I love the hydrangeas at Meigetsu-in—they only bloom in June!
